Fishing Now & Then Learning Center and Museum is a non-profit public service organization dedicated to preserving the heritage and history of fresh water fishing, hunting and trapping.
Fishing Now & Then was developed by Gordon Merz and John Laimon in 2002 due to their desire to encourage children’s interest in the sport of fishing. Along with being avid fisherman, they had become collectors of fishing and hunting equipment and memorabilia including boats, motors, lures, rods, reels, etc. and wanted to keep this heritage alive for generations to come.
The idea of a weekend expo or show became a reality when the management of Heart of America Restaurants & Inns became interested in hosting a community event. The first activity was held at the Pewaukee complex that includes The Machine Shed Restaurant, Radisson Hotel and Comfort Suites with all three facilities involved in the event. This was a huge success and has become an annual fall event.
Fishing Now & Then has now expanded the learning experience with displays at local boat shows ans sport shows along with mobile displays and presentations at schools, day care centers, fishing clinics and other community events. Presentation themes cover “Visiting The Lake” and ”Wandering The Woods”.
Gordy and John have completed DNR training and are now State of Wisconsin DNR Angler Education Instructors.
This project is Gory and John’s labor of love as they continue to donate their time, talents and funds to sponsor this “dream”. Donations to offset printing materials, etc. are always appreciated as well as any donations of memorabilia or equipment that you feel would enhance our program.
